The first step in understanding and manipulating magnetic ordering in complex systems is visualizing it. We use quantum sensors integrated to scanning tips to explore magnetism on length scales below the optical diffraction limit, such as the cycloid ordering in multiferroic BiFeO3. The unique sensitivity of the NV center allows us to see even the small fields generated by antiferromagnets.

Spin waves (magnons) are promising carriers of information and energy for next generation technologies: we are interested in understanding how they propagate and interact with their surrounding magnetic structure. Using the imaging capabilities of NV centers, we explore the relationship between spin waves, magnetic texture, and material properties
